Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Hair Rejuvenation
Hair loss can occur in both men and women. There are a number of reasons why we may lose hair. Genetics, medications, stress, hormonal changes and nutritional deficiencies are just some of these reasons. Regardless of how men and women are losing hair, it can significantly affect self esteem. This is why PRP Hair Rejuvenation should be considered a serious treatment for hair loss.
It is natural for all of us to lose hair, this is normal in the overall hair cycle. However, this can also be dependent on the health of our follicles. By injecting PRP into the scalp, we can bring blood flow and growth factors to the follicles. This can help to revitalize the follicle, making it healthy enough to grow hair and continue in the hair cycle. With that being said, if we have an area on the scalp that has NO follicles, the patient will probably not benefit from PRP in this area.
I typically recommend 4-6 treatments of PRP. I usually have my patients space these out every 4-6 weeks. My patients are instructed to stay out of the sun immediately after treatment. I ask that they do not use shampoo or conditioner for 24 hours after the procedure as well as any hair styling products like dry shampoo, gel, styling cream, etc. Using these products may “suffocate” the follicle at a time when we want blood flow brought to this area.
Overall, PRP in the scalp has been proven to be an amazing tool when dealing with patients struggling with hair loss and is considerably cheaper than traditional hair growth methods, like transplants. I have had a lot of patients say that not only did they grow hair, but they noticed that their hair was thicker and more shiny. And who wouldn’t love that?
