Preparing For Your PRP Hair Treatment

With every PRP treatment, there are a few important things I ask my patients to do—and avoid—prior to their appointment. I always like to share this information ahead of time because life happens: weekend plans, vacations, events, or simply wanting to look your best. And if you’re anything like me, once you’re in a routine, breaking it can feel nearly impossible.

In this blog, we’re going to cover the most important steps to take specifically before a PRP Hair Treatment to help ensure optimal results.

Come With Clean Hair (Yes, Really Clean)

When preparing for a PRP hair treatment, clean hair is non-negotiable. I get it. I am a dry shampoo girly, too. I also love my styling products. I understand Day 9 hair on a spiritual level. But for this treatment, your scalp needs to be clean-clean.

I recommend shampooing the day of your procedure and using a silicone scalp scrubber to ensure the scalp is thoroughly cleansed. A good rule of thumb: if your shampoo doesn’t lather on the first wash, your hair is still dirty. That means you go in for a second wash. A clean scalp allows the PRP to be delivered to the follicles as effectively as possible.

Space Out Hair Color Appointments

Please make sure there is at least a 72-hour gap between coloring your hair and your PRP hair treatment. This includes all types of color—root touch-ups, full color, highlights, lowlights, etc.

Hair dye can irritate the scalp and dry out the hair follicles. Ideally, we want your follicles to be as “untouched” and calm as possible going into your PRP treatment so they can fully benefit from the growth factors being delivered.
