Three Things to Avoid Before Microneedling with PRP
Preparing your skin properly before a microneedling with PRP treatment can make a meaningful difference in both your comfort and your results. Below are three important things I recommend avoiding prior to your appointment.
1. Sun Exposure
While most people know to avoid the sun after microneedling with PRP, it’s just as important to limit sun exposure for at least 72 hours before your procedure. Microneedling works by creating controlled micro-injuries in the skin to stimulate healing and collagen production.
If your skin is already compromised from sun exposure, it can increase post-procedure discomfort, prolong redness, and delay the healing process. Going into your appointment with calm, healthy skin allows your body to respond optimally to treatment.
2. Makeup
I recommend arriving to your PRP appointment without makeup, whenever possible. Because microneedling creates thousands of tiny channels in the skin, it’s essential that the skin is as clean as possible to reduce the risk of irritation or contamination.
I understand that many patients come straight from work or a busy day. If that’s the case, I suggest bringing a gentle face wash so you can remove your makeup thoroughly before treatment. Of course, I always keep a stash of good quality face wash at my office for my clients. Clean skin equals safer treatment and better outcomes.
3. Other Aesthetic Treatments
One of the first questions I ask my patients is, “When was your last Botox or filler treatment?” In general, I recommend avoiding microneedling with PRP for two weeks before and two weeks after injectable treatments such as Botox or dermal fillers.
These treatments need time to settle and work effectively. As a provider, my goal is to protect the results of every aesthetic investment you’ve made and avoid interfering with the efficacy of treatments you’ve already received.
Final Thoughts
This is not an all-inclusive list, and individual recommendations may vary. If you’re unsure about a medication, skincare product, or recent treatment, always reach out to your provider for guidance before your procedure. Clear communication helps ensure the safest experience and the best possible results.
